For Whirlpool Ice Maker Fill Cup And Bearing Assembly (Part Number: OEM18030435)

Lu for Model Number Kbfs20etss00

Hi, I'm having trouble with my ice maker. It's fairly new, replaced about a year ago. Last month it started making loud noises while filling. Almost like popcorn popping but very loud. The ice cubes seem to be smaller than normal and now it won't fill at all. I took the refrigerator filter out, it started working again, still making noise but not as loud, and again it won't fill the ice tray. Can this be saved or do I have to buy another ice maker? Thank you. Lu

1 Answer

Hello Lu, The smaller cubes are an indication that the water valve WP67006531 is failing. The water filter will have no bearing on the icemaker. The loud popping sounds like the mold heater in the icemaker is failing and the icemaker D7824706Q will have to be replaced to correct this part of the issue.

After a three day power failure the ice maker in our refrigerator/freezer makes ice but does not dispense it into the the different compartments on the door of freezer when pushed. Ice keeps building up in inner compartment. Once the power came back we did a major clean out of both freezer and refrigerator. Did we possibly hit something (a switch or whatever by mistake) while doing the clean out? The ice maker works but the shoot to the various(ice cubes, water, crushed ice) options does not work at all.

Jackie, The dispenser door is mechanical and uses the lever to open up and would not have anything electrically wrong with it. If the motor WP2252130 of your dispenser is not tuning to dispense the ice then most likely the motor is faulty and would need to be replaced.

Hello Billy. If the icemaker is overfilling, replace the water valve. If it is leaking, replace the icemaker.

Hello Beth, If there is too much water pressure and overfilling the icemaker then the icemaker cannot turn enough to engage the heater. You will want to make sure that the icemaker is sitting level. If it is then you will want to try to regulate the pressure by closing off the water supply line a little.

Hello Kent, If the icemaker is leaking then the ice mold may be deteriorating and the icemaker would have to be replaced. There is no kind of O ring for the icemaker assembly D7824706Q.

Hello Robert, The front cover of the ice maker just snaps on, so snap it off. You will see three Phillips head screws which should be removed. Once removed, pull the motor module, (tan plastic part with the big geared wheel on it), off and you will see two larger Phillips head screws down in recessed holes. When they are removed, this frees the harvest rake so you can pull it back and replace the bearing (fill funnel assembly). Be sure when you are re-assembling the ice maker assembly, that the grey material on the back side of the thermostat is reinstalled. This stuff is called thermal mastic and the thermostat will never cycle properly without it. Therefore, if you see any larger "chunks" of it, retrieve them and stick them on the end of the cycling thermostat so it is pinched between the ice mold and the thermostat. Complete the re-assembly in reverse of the dis-assembly.
