For Whirlpool Whirlpool Everydrop Refrigerator Water Filter 3 (Part Number: OEM17950698)

John for Model Number WRF560SEYM04

I had a whirlpool refrigerator delivered yesterday. It has French doors and a water dispenser on the outside. Since we had it delivered and installed, water has been dripping from the dispenser. We must have emptied at least 10 gallons out to clear the line. The water drip may stop for several hours but restart when someone tries to get a glass of water from the dispenser. We just discovered this morning that the water filter ejects from the housing sometimes when dispensing water. Could this be causing the leaking problem and what can we do? Thanks John

John, Yes, the water filter popping out would cause the unit to drip at the dispenser. You will want to make sure that the filter is in all the way and if it is fully seating and locking into place. If it is and still doing this then it sounds like the filter head is bad and would need replaced.

TR, Yes, Whirlpool side by side refrigerators will operate with the water filter removed. There is a "bypass" mechanism inside the filter housing the directs the water flow into the filter when the present. The mechanism also "bypasses" the filter and allows the water to flow through the system when the filter is removed.

Hello Christine, You can try pressing and Releasing the Light Button (door switch) 5 times Quickly. Other models require that you Press and Hold The Light and Lock Buttons until the Water Filter light flashes. Other designs require that you press and hold the “RESET” button for 10 seconds. I checked the owners manual and Whirlpool doesn't bother to explain on this model.

Joann, The push button on the filter should be popped to the outer most position when the filter is in place or not. The only time it will push in is when the filter is being pulled out. You will want to push the filter in with a little bit of force in order for it to lock into place. If you need to use the end of a broom and push on the filter to push it in all the way. If it still will not lock in then the filter housing would need to be replaced.

Nancy for Model Number ED5PHAXSQ01

I have always replaced the filter with 4396841 but this time I was given another # filter (looked identical) and didn't realize it was a different # until the water dispenser would not stop flowing. Got the correct filter but the water dispenser still will not shut off when I remove the glass. Why do I have to pull the paddle forward firmly for a moment for the water to stop? I have never had this or any other problem when replacing the filter. Thanks for your help.

Nancy, When replacing the water filter, it is necessary to purge 3 gallons of water through the dispenser. Until this is done the water will continue to run until the air that is in the line from installing the new filter is purged. This may be what happened and after the air has been purged it should work.

Hello Sally, This can be the tubing or reservoir. It could also be the water supply line to the refrigerator. You should try the water to the unit first, then begin replacing the tubing and reservoir.

Dan, You may have to remove the kickplate to get the filter out. You will have to take the cap off and push in on the tab and get ahold of the filter and pull out. If it still will not come out then you may need to replace the filter housing.
