For Whirlpool User Interface (Biscuit) (Part Number: OEM18039636)

Denny Joe for Model Number GEW9250PW1 (white)

I apologize if I sound like a stuck record but my control panel is similar w/ others - having a mind of its own, not turning on unless a certain command is dialed. When it's not operational the "End of Cycle" signal glows in the "off" position. If it cycles on it doesn't pause/cancel. Initially I didn't know the control panel was this suspect and I got steered into thinking and reviewing the feedback for a control board issue and purchased and replaced it. Well the same thing continues. After reviewing the feedback with the above issues I believe now the electronic control panel is the culprit. Sigh! The question is that there's several selections... Item #19 on the schematic, for a "control board" or "Interface". I'm confused but I think it's PN #AP6013208 I need to purchase? Also, Is it possible to get a RA # to return the control board I just purchased or how does that work? Please advise so I may make my purchase soon. Thanks for your time and expertise! Denny

Allen for Model Number GEW 9250 PW1

11 year old dryer. About 12 months ago, we ran a couple normal loads of clothes. It finished the cycles correctly, but after the second cycle, dryer would not accept new commands via the front user interface panel. Pressing buttons had no effect. Several LEDs were glowing (Not the Control Locked LED). Uplugged dryer for a few minutes, then plugged in and everything worked. Last week, wife reported an "electrical" smell last (vents, lint trap are maintained regularly) and now have to leave dryer unplugged over an hour and can only get one load of clothes before having to unplug. From research, likely culprits appear to be either Control Board or User Interface Board. I don't mind replacing one or the other, but if I had to replace both, would probably just buy a new dryer. Dryer does get the clothes dried, so this appears to be an issue with the control/ interlock system. Is there a way to diagnose these boards? I am mechanically/ electrically competent. Thanks, Allen

Allen, Unfortunately the only way to test the control board would be to test power in and power out. With the unit operating normally when it does run and then shuts down and will not run a second load then this issue would more likely be a control board that is faulty.

I think the user interface in my Whirlpool Duet clothes dryer (GEW9250PW1) needs replacing. Signs are lights are on in the drum but there's no response from any key pad keys and the lock indicator light glows continuously. Diagnostics with a multimeter on the control panel indicate that's fine so the user interface does seem to be the culprit. However I ordered a new interface (WP8558753) and when I connected it, I had the same problem. Is there a way to determine if the new interface is defective other than try ordering another and hope that one works? Thanks.

Candace, This issue sounds like the control is in control lock out mode. You will want to try to hit the end of cycle signal button for 3 seconds and see if it comes out of the locked mode. If it does not then the issue will be a faulty main control board since user interface has already been replaced.

Elizabeth, The first thing to check would be the thermal fuse that is on the blower housing to ensure that it has continuity. If it does not then replace it and check the venting from the blower wheel to the outside of the home to make sure that the venting is clear. If the fuse has continuity then you will want to check the door switch to make sure that it has continuity in the closed position.

Hello Brian! Part number WP8558753 is for the platinum model, WP8558755 is for the bisque model, and WP8558756 is for the pewter model. The difference would mainly be the control button colors on each user interface. Thanks.

Chuck for Model Number Whirlpool duet GEW9250PW1 Dryer

The dryer has a mind of its own now. Most times the only thing seeming to have power is the light in the drum, no lights on the control panel. Then all of a sudden it will start running if the door is closed and the control panel will light up. None of the buttons or switches work though. You can't change settings or get the start or stop buttons to work. The timer display will work and count down but it jumps around. (starts with 34+-, then goes to 22+- and then stops a minute later). My question is it the control board or panel?

1 Answer

Chuck, With the issue that you are having, you will want to check the harness between the main control board and the user interface for continuity and make sure that it is good. If the harness checks ok then the main control board would most likely be the cause for the issue.

I have a Whirlpool Duet Electric Dryer. The problems I am having with it sounds similar to the ones posted here and elsewhere and point to the User Interface. I just want to confirm the issues that my dryer has sounds like the user interface. The issues started a week ago when the "power on" button had to be pressed several times and would only work when the knob was set to only a certain setting. The "hold to start" button would not start the dryer when pressed and then randomly start on its own. The other issue is that the "stop" button does not work and the only way to stop the dryer would be to open the door. I opened up the dryer and made sure all the connections were good and thought that solved the issue for a minute when the controls seemed to work, however, the dryer again started by itself and the control knob and buttons again did not respond like normal. I ran the diagnostic test and everything tested normal. My guess is the user interface went bad, but wanted to seek your opinion before ordering the part.

Dave, Based on the information it does sound like the user interface would be the issue with the unit.

Hello Josh. It depends on the issue your having with the unit. You can look and feel for spongy and stuck buttons on the unit.

Hello, The light inside the dryer comes on, and when I can get it to start, it heats and runs fine. The buttons on the front have stopped responding and lighting up. Faint lights are always stuck on about the same 3 different settings, regardless of unplugging it and plugging it back in. Turning the knob won't get them to switch and the start, cancel, and on/off buttons don't do anything. The display won't show anything either. I'm assuming it's the front control panel. I have taken it apart and nothing seems obviously blown. My question is, does this seem to be the problem? If so, on the parts list what is the difference between the "user interface", "electronic control" and the "cntrl-elec"? Is there any kind of testing I can do at home to confirm the problem? Thank you!
