The Door Latch Assembly is an OEM part for Whirlpool washing machines. This assembly secures the washer door during operation, ensuring it remains closed and the washer operates safely. It also signals the washer to begin the wash cycle when the door is properly latched.

Over time, door latch assemblies can wear out or become damaged due to frequent use, exposure to moisture, or accidental impacts. A faulty latch may prevent the washer from starting or cause it to stop mid-cycle.

Symptoms of a bad door latch assembly include:

  • The washer not starting or responding
  • The door not locking or unlocking properly
  • Error codes related to door latch issues
  • The washer stopping mid-cycle

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Door Latch Assembly (Part Number: OEM18035658)

Gary, Yes the door latch assembly would most likely be the cause for the clothes being damp at the end of the cycle. If the door is not engaging the spin enable switch inside of it then it will cause the unit to not spin properly and cause the clothes to be damp. You will want to replace the door latch assembly.

Steve, You will want to check the incoming power supply for voltage drops when the unit is running. If there is no voltage drop then the main control board would likely be the issue.

Connie, The F5 E2 error code is a door lock error. At the start of the cycle, the washer attempts to lock the door 6 times which is the clicking you hear. You will want to verify that the wire harness connectors are fully inserted at the door lock and and the control board. Make sure that the door can close easily and that clothes are not pushing out on the door. Make sure that the strike is good and is not misaligned. If this checks ok then access the tech sheet inside the unit and do the door lock test number 4 on page 16 of the tech sheet.

Bought washer from previous owner who said repairman told him he needed a new "control board." He did not know the error code. I plugged in, closed the door (no clothes in washer), powered on, hit start button. The red LED door lock button does not come on and F22 code appears. I have to pull the release cable to open the door. I hold in the "push button" with door open and hit start. Six faint clicks, no red LED, then F22. I pulled the control board and there are no apparent bad caps. Is the door lock part #8183270 next step to try?

Hello Sam. Possible Causes/Procedure Door lock mechanism is broken or removed from door. Door switch/lock unit failure. Unplug washer or disconnect power. Check door switch/lock unit. Check the wire harness connections to the door switch/lock unit and Central Control Unit (CCU). If door lock is new, replace the CCU.

Hello Marc. The overflow condition occurs if there is too much water or foam in the washer. If overflow occurs, the valves are closed and the drain pump switches on for at least 30 seconds. If the cycle is running, the washer will repeat this process 4 times before displaying the error code. Once the error code is displayed, the cycle is terminated and all water is pumped out. This routine will also be active during standby mode, except that the washer will drain until the tub is empty. Possible Causes • Check inlet valves for proper shutoff. • Verify that drain hose is not plugged or kinked. • Check/clean drain pump filter of foreign objects. • Check connections from tub to air trap, air trap to pressure hose, and pressure hose to water level sensor. Is pressure hose pinched, kinked, plugged, or leaking air?

Hello Bruce. At the start of a cycle, the washer attempts to unlock the door 6 times. The error code is saved in memory as F5E3. Verify that harness connectors are fully inserted in ACU and door lock. Verify door latch is secured to front panel. Check for misaligned, broken, or over-tightened door latch. WPW10443885 is the door lock for the unit.

Lemon, to manually unlock the door. Unplug washer or disconnect power. Remove the top washer panel. Reach down along the inside of the front (between tub and ACU) and locate the top of the door switch/lock assembly. Located on the top of the door switch/lock assembly is a ring-shaped tab Gently pull the tab upward about ¼" (6 mm) or until a click is heard. The door may be opened. Then you'll need to check the water level switch and drain pump for proper circuits and operation.

Grinch for Model Number WFW94HEXW2

My washer is throwing F6/E1 , F6 E2 (sometimes). Done majority of the tests that corresponds to the isolating a fault. When running the diagnostics mode it will not go beyond C00. The actuator engages the doorlock and I can hear that the CCU relay keeps opening and closing. I'm measuring a +5Vdc across the MCU comm terminals, etc. But the relay opening and closing multiple times is what concerns me. I will say that when my wife had called letting me know what happened and arrived I could smell a faint odor of something "frying" in the CCU. Before taking the plunge just based on odor I'd like to think the relay opening and closing would be the better isolation that it may have become faulty which leaves me with 2 options. Find the item and resolder or purchase a new CCU.

Hello Grinch, The possibility of finding a poor solder connection on the board is remote. It is more likely that the EEPROM or one of the capacitors on the board has failed. Since the controls are coated with a moisture resistance material, it is normally not possible to solder on these boards. From the description, it sounds like you will have to replace the CCU W10427967.
