For Whirlpool Motor (Part Number: OEM17955459)

Jaime for Model Number Kssc36qms03

Kitchenaid kssc36qmz03 i am having trouble with the ice dispenser. The motor 2315546 will not turn. When the fridge is turned off for a couple of days, when i power back on, the motor spins fine. Come back next day and nothing. I have removed the motor and drive shaft, when it is totally removed from the fridge, i am not able to manually rotate the motor by rotating the shaft. I see some posts that talk about the harness being corroded and mine is too a bit. I am suspecting the motor is bad, but i do not want to order a new one only to find out the problem is elsewhere. Why would the motor spin when warm, but not cold?

1 Answer

Jaime, In most cases there is moisture that has gotten into the motor which is causing the motor to freeze up. The moisture does not have enough time to go away in the short period that it is disconnected and therefor refreezes after being reconnected. You would want to replace the motor W10822635 for this issue.

Paul for Model Number KSSO36QTB00

Hi, this is paul again, and thanks for answering my question about the auger motor I recently posted. It was the wrong question to ask though. I have a new motor. The issues is the wires that connect to the motor from the wiring harness have heavily corroded terminators. These apparently can be replaced simply by stripping the wires and re-terminating. But that means I need to have these wire terminators. But I cannot find them in a retail store. I am having trouble also searching on line because I dont know what the specs are, or what they are properly names. Do you? Or do you know anything that might help identify or procure these apparently rare 3 cent parts??

1 Answer

Hello Paul. Sorry, but the terminals you are looking for are not available. The manufacture does not sell those. The only way to get the wiring harness is with a complete door order and it is no longer offered. Sorry again.

Ed for Model Number ED5LHAXWQ00

We have just returned to our condo after 5 months. I thought I turned off the ice maker before we left. When we returned the ice bin was full and frozen solid. I turned off the refrigerator to let it thaw and later emptyed most of the ice. I ran the cube dispenser to get the remaining ice out. I turned the ice maker back on and heard it make ice. However now when I push the lever for ice nothing happens, no sound no click nothing. Did I burn out the dispenser motor? Could it be something else? If it is the motor, can I replace it or should I call a repairman? Ed

1 Answer

Wayne, The wire harness for the dispenser motor is part of the door assembly and cannot be gotten as a separate part.

Jm for Model Number w10271507

I have a built in Kitchen Aid refrigerator/freezer, model KSSC42QTS02. The ice dispenser is not working. I thought this was due to a faulty motor (w10271507), so I replaced it but this did not fix the problem. Ice is made and it is not frozen solid. When I remove the ice holder I can turn the metal shaft. When I push for sensor for ice to be dispensed I hear the motor engage but I also hear 2-3 clicking noises in the top of the unit where the on/off switch is located. I assume there is a faulty circuit board/controller but I am not sure which one controls the ice motor, PART NUMBER: 2318054 or W10219462R or another part. Thanks

Hello JM. This is an issue caused by the door liner being made of plastic. You see, the issue is caused by the plastic door liner changing shape by a small amount and this makes the shaft too short. Believe me, this steel shaft cannot strip. When the motor is setting effectively further away, this makes the shaft slip because it isn't meshing fully. I remove the two 1/4 inch hex headed screws and set the plastic "keeper" and spring aside. Pull the shaft up, out of the hole, (you can grab it with needle nosed pliers). Wrap electrical tape, sticky side out, around itself about 20 times or so and shove the wad of tape into the bottom end of the shaft. It may take a few trys to get the length right, but when you get it right, the shaft will mesh on both ends and it will dispense again. This is one of two ways to correct this issue. The other one is to replace the freezer door assembly.

Bob for Model Number Model # KSSC36QTS / Serial # QW1012004

My ice maker chute door does not open during attempted ice delivery. The system makes ice, and when engaged to delivery the motor for the ice bucket turns and crushes the crap out of ice ... but the door remains closed. Your video shows an ice maker that is accessed through the front cover plate. However, my ice / water dispenser is recessed in the door and with the stainless door exterior, my assumption is that the access for the mechanism is behind this stainless cover. Any manual support for this specific model?

1 Answer

Bob, there have been a few issues with the "stepper" motor WPW10205979 on the ice door flapper assembly. You will need to remove power to the refrigerator. Then the façade WPW10151236 and dispenser cover WPW10260622 to access the motor and flapper assemblies.

Tim for Model Number 10657704701 KENMORE ELITE SIDE BY SIDE REFRIGERATOR

water dispenser working fine ,But Ice dispenser not working. I took out all the ice in the ice bucket just in case it was frozen solid causing the auger not to move. when you press the pad to dispense ice the motor runs for a second and then stops. the flap up inside opens and then after a few seconds closes. wondering if it is the Drive shaft that might be disconnected or is it the motor itself ? and do you make this repair from the front of the ice dispenser ? thank you

1 Answer

Tim, If the dispenser motor runs for a second and then stops then most likely the motor is bad and would need to be replaced. You would access this by removing the drip tray on the dispenser and remove the 2 screws at the back of the dispenser under the drip tray. Once out you lift the dispenser assembly out to access the motor. You will need to remove the ice bucket and pull the shaft from the door to get the dispenser motor out.

Mjkimball for Model Number for KitchenAid Refrigerator Freezer - Part ID W10271507

When I press the ice dispenser activator on the outside of the refrigerator, I hear a buzzing sound as if the motor is attempting to turn, but the ice does not dispense. We removed the ice from the bucket inside and checked that there were no obious blockages caused by ice. Even empty the arm does not turn inside of the ice maker - it still just makes a buzzing sound but no ice (either with the bucket empty or when you select cubes or crushed ice). I removed the motor and am planning to replace it, but am wondering if it may be that the arm going from the motor to the ice bucket was not engaged properly (e.g. the motor is making buzzing sound because it has power/works but somehow the arm is not in there seated properly). Any feedback you can provide? Also I wonder if I just put back in the SAME motor and get the long arm seated properly, maybe the thawing of that motor had something to do with it also. Please provide your steps on how I should do my troubleshooting. Thank you very much - your feedback in this forum has been really exceptional.

John W for Model Number KSSC36QTS03

The auger motor is running but not engaging the drive shaft to the ice bucket thus not dispensing ice. I removed the motor (it has no apparent wear or play in the shaft receptacle) then checked if there was any slippage or sloppiness in the shaft assembly all the way up top the auger-there was no rotational play, it drove the auger shaft in both directions using a 3/8" socket & wrench at both ends, it seems intact. However, there is vertical play-when I push up on the shaft assembly there is about 1/4"-1/2" of movement, then it engages the auger (ice bucket now back in place). But with the motor re-attached, the shaft assembly drops down the same distance and is now disengaged. I suspect a coupling but I'm not sure what needs to be removed to look at it. Your thoughts please, thanks...John

1 Answer

John, When you pull the ice bin off of the unit and remove the 2 screws that are under it. Lift the little cover off and pull the shaft out of the door. On the end that you pull out, there is a coupling to keep the shaft from sliding down to far. If you flip the shaft over and put the shaft into the hole with the short part down and then tap on the other end of the shaft to allow the coupling to be a little further down on the shaft and then reassembly and try to dispense. It may take a few adjustments to get just right but this is how you would need to correct issue.
