The Thermistor is an OEM part for Whirlpool brand dryers. It is a temperature-sensing resistor that monitors air temperature changes during the drying cycle. The thermistor provides feedback to the control board on heating element performance and internal air condition.

Symptoms of a failed thermistor include:

  • Inaccurate temperature readings and selections
  • Improper or incomplete drying
  • Safety issues from overheating due to lack of feedback
  • Error codes displayed on the control panel

Causes can be related to normal wear and environmental exposure over time. Failure prevents the dryer from achieving optimal drying conditions.

This OEM Whirlpool part can also be used on Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore/Sears brand appliances.

For Whirlpool Thermistor (Part Number: OEM18040551)

Daniel B. for Model Number 11063954102

Kenmore Electric Dryer - I have checked the heating element, the max tempeture thermostant, the high limit thermostat and the thermal fuse and they all have continity. I have also check the thermistor and best I can tell it looks to have about 10,000 OHM at room temperture. Could the timer be causing the dryer not to heat? The unit runs but does not heat. If not the timer what order would you suggest changeing out the thermostats and fuses?

Dan, Do you have 220/240 VAC at the terminal block on the back of the dryer, with the cord plugged into the socket ? be careful, that's a live voltage test. You may want to try this, disconnect one of the wies from the element terminal, and start the dryer on a heat cycle, check the empty terminal of the element to chassis ground for 120 VAC, if the wire traces back to the thermostats, you'd have an open wire or a bad contact at the timer. Check from the wire terminal of the wire you removed to chassis ground for 120 VAC, if the wire traces back to the motor, you would have an open wire or a bad heat circuit in the motor switch. Thanks and Good Luck

Hi Kirk. The E-1 code is always (99%) a open thermistor on top of the blower hsg. It is part # WP8577274. Rarely is it the controls. Make sure your entire vent assy. Is cleaned and check the outside vent hood also for proper operation. Thank you.

Jay, Do you get an E1 or E2 display ? The thermister would not keep the motor from starting or running. It will flash one of the codes and "shuts" down the control board, and the unit. You should have a reading of 10,000 ohms at room temperature across the thermister terminals, with the wires off. Thanks and Good Luck

Hello Robert. It needs to be disconnected from the dryer. At 5k, it sounds like it is bad, and you will need to replace the thermister WP8577274. Hope this helps.

Hello Bob. Based on the code you provided, the EE is for Eprom error. It sounds like the micro-computer 3407148 is bad and will need to be replaced. Hope this helps.
