For Whirlpool Refrigerator Icemaker Cycling Thermostat (Part Number: OEM18030420)

1 Answer

Chip, You will want to check to make sure that at the times that the icemaker is not operating that the temperature in the freezer is not elevated. If it is not then this will likely be a issue with the thermostat on the icemaker that is faulty.

Wagner L for Model Number MFI2569VEM2

Ice box does not make ice. Disassembled the ice box, light maroon control board small motor runs (and white nylon gear) okay if plugged directly to 120Vac. Once installed it never runs, the ice separator fingers never move for days. Suspect thermostat. Once all the cables where disconnected from the control board on the back of the fridge, the thermostat pins on the cable show 60kO, what means open, that was at temperature without ice or water inside the ice maker. When the thermostat should close? what temperature? Found open IQ17 NPN transistor that controls M4 relay on the control board at the back of fridge, replaced, up to now nothing. I don't know what M4 relay feeds power. Lacking documentation and electric schematic. What do you suggest first before replacing the Ice Making unit ?

1 Answer

Wagner, We do not have a rating on the cycling thermostat for the icemaker of the unit on resistance of the part. Based on what is going on with the unit not cycling then this would most likely be a faulty icemaker and would recommend replacing it.

Stretcj. This actually sounds like it would be normal as the normal cycle of an icemaker would be 5 or 8 cubes depending on model every 1 1/2 to 2 hours.

Arvid, The first thing to check would be to make sure that the icemaker harness is plugged in. If it is then this will most likely be caused by a faulty icemaker assembly.

Hello Nathan. If the unit is overfilling, you will need to replace the water valve 67006322 on the unit. If the issue continues, then the icemaker WPW10190981 will need to be replaced as well.

Steve, If the ice maker advances/rotates and dispenses the cubes into the ice bucket, but doesn't fill to make more cubes, that isn't a thermostat problem. It's more likely to be a fill valve problem, or no water supply to the refrigerator. Try this, get a 2 or 3 inch piece of insulated 14 gauge wire, remove the insulation from both ends of the wire. Remove the ice maker front cover. insert one end of the wire into the opening labeled"T" and the other end of the wire into the "H" opening,Make sure you insert the wire deep enough to make contact with the internal terminals, hold the wire there until the rake arm starts to rotate and reaches the 8 0r 9 o'clock position then remove it and observe the rake arm rotate. If the rake arm doesn't start to rotate, then check or replace the thermostat and check the heater. Of the rake arm rotates but no water flows in when the rake arm reaches the 12 to 1 o'clock position, then check for water to the refrigerator and / or replace the fill valve.

Anthony for Model Number GS5SHAXTL01

My fridge is a Whirlpool side by side Mod # GS5SHAXTL01. I scrolled through part #s untill I was about to fall asleep. Can you tel me if this Icemaker Thermostat #627985 will fit my unit and also if its what I need. Ice maker makes Ice but sometime it seems to get out of sinc and the little funnel gets full, freezes and then it tries to add water to make more ice, resulting in water being sprayed all over the freezer. Also then the little rubber nipple where the water comes out has a plug of ice in it I have to try and squeeze out.

1 Answer

Anthony, If the fill cup and tube are freezing then the thermostat would not be the issue and would be a issue of the water valve seeping causing the fill tube to freeze. You will want to replace the water valve.
