Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Lower Wash Arm (Part Number: OEM18029664)

Greg, it sounds like water is splashing out of the tub and hitting the insulation that is inside the door panel. Check your bottom spray arm to see if it is restricted. If it is, it can cause water to spray is such a way that it builds up a wave and runs over the lip of the tub. You ca also remove the door panel and run the dishwasher to see if there is something else causing a leak.

Sarah, The other part that would cause the spray arm to not stay on if it is being placed on properly and rotated to lock in then this would be a faulty cover WPW10455271.

Kc, For the issue of the door not staying all the way open would be a faulty door spring. You will want to pull the unit out and check the springs on the unit. As for the wash rack sticking, This sounds like it would be caused by the tub either being out of alignment or the sides of the tub have warped.

Hello Ken, This is usually caused by a lack of water pressure to the spray arms, This means there is either a pressure loss or a clogged screen inside the unit somewhere. You should check for separating spray arms, missing grommets in the main manifold, and if nothing is found it is time to disassemble the pump assembly from the inside of the tub. You will be looking for any screens stopped up to include the one by the chopper blade, (which would indicate damage to the shaft the blade is driven by). Also, if the discharge housing assembly WP6-918807 plate has separated from the assembly, it will have to be replaced since this directs the water flow from the impeller and has a major impact on water pressure produced.

Hello Rudi, There is no washer under the spray arm. It is designed to be wobbly and the water pressure should take up the slack. If it is hitting the bottom of the rack, there are probably some holes stopped up and the pressure in the spray arm is uneven. I would simply replace the spray arm WP6-917642 and the retention nut WP99002654. Also check the chopper blade screen. The discharge housing has a flat plate inside it that should be attached to it. If it is loose, this will drop the water pressure.

Matt for Model Number MDBH985AWS

We are having a couple of issues with this dishwasher. 1. It is not draining well. There is always a few inches of water left after a cycle. So far I have taken apart the inside and cleaned everything that I can find to clean. I rinsed the pump filter as best as I could, not perfect but seems pretty good. I removed the drain motor and cleaned it out, seemed to spin ok. I removed the drain hose and made sure it seemed to be clear. After all that it still left water in the tub. Could the drain pump be under performing or is it all or nothing? Any other suggestions to look at? 2. There is always something stuck on a couple glasses or some bowls. I was thinking that the stuck stuff was due to the poor draining, residue getting sprayed around. 3. The lower spray arm is not spinning. At least I positioned it let the washer run for a few minutes and then checked it, the arm was in the same place as I left it. Water was coming out of the sprayer holes when I opened the door. Any suggestions? Should I replace the lower spray arm? The filter plate, the drain pump or something else? Thanks.

Hello Matt. Run some dishwasher cleaner through the system and make sure the water in the unit is filling to the bottom of the heater. If not, replace the water valve on the unit. Low water level can cause poor cleaning in the unit as well.

Douglas, There is not a washer that can be removed to lower the spray arm. You may want to check to make sure that the axles on the roller have not broken causing the lower rack to be lower.
