The Whirlpool refrigerator dual solenoid icemaker water inlet valve is an OEM replacement part responsible for controlling the water flow to the refrigerator's icemaker. It is typically located at the back of the refrigerator, near the bottom, where the water supply line connects to the refrigerator. The water valve receives signals from the refrigerator's control board to open and close, allowing water to flow into the icemaker.

The Whirlpool water inlet valve can also be used on Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore/Sears brand appliances.

This part fixes the following symptoms:

  • Failure to make ice or limited ice production
  • Loud or unusual noises coming from the water valve

Hi Lady. The inlet valve is a easy part change. The hoses are different sizes so they only hook up one way. You can use the hoses and couplers supplied to extend the hoses if need be. Most of the time you do not need to. If they are long enough, use the half size connectors to slide onto the old hoses and they will compress onto the valve while you snug them on. Valve part 4318046. Thank You.

Hello Jason. Remove the water line from the bottom of the freezer door. Press the dispenser and see if water comes out there. If so, the line inside the door is frozen and needs to be replaced. If there is no water there, the water valve 4318046 may be bad on the unit. Hope this helps.

I noticed our ice maker wasn't making ice. I found the tube that feeds the ice maker had frozen ice inside of it. I used a hair dryer to thaw it so the ice would come out of the tube. Upon doing this, the ice maker kept over filling causing water to spill all over the freezer. I could see a constant stream of water coming out of the plastic tube in the freezer. I checked this inlet valve and when I disconnected the tube leading to the freezer, it was letting a small stream of water out. Am I correct in thinking this inlet valve likely needs to be replaced, or would it be the ice maker iteself? Thanks in advance for any info you have.

Hi Tom. Disconnect the water line below the freezer door hinge. Put the water line into the glass and see if it will flow now. If so then the door water line is clogged. Part # WP4388152. If not then you need to see if the water baffle behind the crisper drawer is frozen. If it is you can disconnect it and thaw it out under the sink. Tank/ baffle part # WP2256126. There is a micro-switch that is to the upper area of the water paddle. It can be jumped and you can see if the switch was bad while calling for water. Switch part # WP2162361. Thank You.

Chad for Model Number ED25TQ

I recently purchased a used Whirlpool side by side. The previous party did not use the water option. When I attached the water supply, the water to the ice maker just kept running and did not shut off. I was told it was the inlet valve so I purchased a new only to find the same problem. None of the tubes were hooked on the old inlet valve so I am not sure if I have them hooked up in the proper location. Is there a plumbing diagram I could view? Or is there another problem?

Hi Chad. There are (should be) 3 hose connections on the dual solenoid water valve. The supply incoming is separate on the "front " side of the water valve as it is mounted to the cabinet. Then there is a 1/4" line side of the red side which goes to the ice maker straight up to the ice maker. The 5/16" line will hook to the green color that goes to a internal water tank. Then the tank will supply the fountain control via the lower freezer hinge door connection. If you have it correct. Then look at the ice maker when it is calling for water fill, with the arm down . Pop off the front cover and see if after the 6-second fill is over, ice maker stops lifts the bail arm and shuts itself off. Since the ice maker controls the water valve fill and will not stop, then the ice maker is shorted internally and needs replaced. This part # is 4317943. Thank You.
