I replaced the supply line to the fridge - no change in taste. I replaced the MWF manifold and tubes, the water inlet valve and the water storage line. That did it, good tasting water again! The ice still has a bad taste, so I'll replace the supply tube from the valve to the ice maker. Overall, replacing these parts was easy and the videos from Appliance Parts Pros helped. Read more

The refrigerator is about 8-9 years old. GE Profile side by side with water and ice dispenser in the freezer door. Recently, it was time to replace the MSWF cartridge (the indicator light came on). I've done this numerous times over the years, but on this occasion, after installing the new cartridge, I noticed a significant drop in the water pressure and quantity coming out of the dispenser. Water dispenser came down to a trickle and made a lot of noise, I changed the filter but it didnt help and thus the water tank/head assembly needed to be replaced. Replacing the water Tank/head assembly was an easy task, the hardest part is removing the covers and taking care of not breaking the insulation of the water inlet hose. Turned off water behind the fridge. Unscrewed housing that covered water lines behind the filter base with a 1/4" socket. Pulled out the water hoses by pulling forward on the blue ring holding the hose while pulling the hose backward. Unscrewed the two screws below the filter base. Used the 1/4" socket to remove four additional 1/4" nuts holding the front housing until it partially dropped. I kept the housing propped on a jar. I started by watching the video posted by couple of people on youtube on how to replace a microwave handle. After taking out the liner, I hit a roadblock with unscrewing the handle screw. The grip on the front side had basically melted causing it to be loose, so the screw and the plastic part would rotate together. After trying several things, I gave up and took it to Ace hardware to find an extractor of some sort. Luckily, the guys there used several tools and managed to get the screw out.... Read more

Almost ordered solenoid valve but realize ice maker was working ok and water dispenser worked good for the first 1-2 seconds. Read online forums and found some posting about replacement of filter head w/ reservoir tha ressembled the problem I was having.
