The dryer is a Kenmore Laundry Center, model 417-99570150. Bought in 1998, so it is an older model. Not wanting to buy the newer ones that are out now. We opted to fix the Kenmore. Just believe the older models are worth fixing, if at all possible. Frist we had to figure out what parts we would need and if the cost would be worth our time. The very easy diagnosis was motor seizure. Because the machine is about a decade old, I decided to renovate most of the guts. My DIY project included replacing the motor, blower, drum bearing, belt, and door hinge. The end result is a functional dryer with no left-over parts. Got the model number off the dryer. Looked it up online. I wanted name brand replacement part. Found this wonderful AppliancePartsPros.com. Looked up my model number, went to top control panel section, ordered the Start Switch. In ONE DAY I received it. Removed the back part of my dryer. Easily removed the broken part. (I did watch a video online). Put on the new Start Switch. Instead of ordering a new knob. I removed a knob from the dryer that I don't use. It turns a buzzer on or off to let... Read more

I'm new to how a dryer works, so I just started taking it apart to see what exactly was causing it. The video examples on the APP website were all amazing. • Takes too long to dry

Get some acetone at a Hardware Store before you start. A pint will do. Unplug the dryer from 110 VAC. Pull the top off of the dryer, by lifting it from the front first. It is attached with snap metal fittings. Do not completely remove the top, just tip upright to gain access to the front interior of the dryer. Replaced the rear drum bearing assembly and the front top felt that the drum rides on and since I has it apart installed a new belt. Simple to do and takes very little time! Read more

• Door won't close

My dryer door would not stay shut because the door strike was stuck in the door catch. I was afraid that when I pulled the strike out, it would damage the catch, so I ordered the door strike and door catch. I got the damaged door strike out with needle nosed pliers in about 15 seconds. The door catch was in perfect condition so I didn't need to use the one I ordered. So then I proceeded to install the new door strike. By reading the forums I first thought it may be the thermostat. I bypassed the thermostat wiring and the dryer still turned off after a few second of running. The second check was for the door switch. I couldn't find an explanation of how to bypass, so I just ordered a new one to try. It worked. Read more
