The Coupling is an OEM replacement part for Whirlpool French door bottom-mount refrigerators equipped with an interior automatic icemaker. As an internal part, this coupling connects the auger motor to the ice mold assembly, allowing the motor to transmit rotational force during the ice harvest cycle.
Causes of a damaged coupling can include regular wear from years of exposure to changing temperatures inside the refrigerator. Mineral deposits accumulating on surfaces over many harvest seasons have the potential to deteriorate plastic material. Physical obstructions lodged in the icemaker mechanism could potentially bend or crack the coupling.
Symptoms of a failing coupling involve:
- Inability of the auger motor to engage fully and eject frozen cubes
- Grinding or knocking sounds emitting from the icemaker
- Restricted or incomplete ice harvest that leaves cubes in molds
This OEM replacement is compatible with some Kenmore Elite French door models.

Ice dispenser was skipping so not dispensing ice Del H. • Midlothian , TX • September 03, 2018
The problem was that the motor coupler & shaft had a tiny bit of rust at their union. With the weight of the ice bin it rusted in the lowest position. This didn't allow the motor coupler to float on the shaft. There is a spring inside the shaft that pushes up on the motor coupler keeping it engaged in the ice bin coupler above. This coupler in turn rotates the auger in the bin to dispense the ice. I removed the motor coupler & shaft, tapped the coupler loose and filed off the rust. This allowed...

Ice maker stopped working Mary K. • Chesapeake Beach , MD • August 06, 2018
Bought new optic control boards, both the emitter and the receiver. The repair process was so simple. The KitchenAid repair tech came out to diagnose our issue. He was only going to come back and install a new emitter. They wanted a lot of money to do the repair. They were going to charge us $257 just for the part (emitter board). We bought both boards for $300 from AppliancePartsPros. We decided to replace both boards, because if one went bad the other might not be far behind.

This defrost heater mounts at the freezer's evaporator and melts frost during the automatic defrost cycle, keeping airflow unobstructed and temperatures stable. Replace a failed heater to clear ice buildup and restore proper cooling performance. What it does:
- Heats the evaporator coil at set intervals to melt accumulated frost/ice
- Prevents ice from blocking airflow between freezer and refrigerator sections
- Helps maintain consistent temperatures and efficient cooling
- Common symptoms of failure: thick frost on the back freezer wall, weak airflow, refrigerator warming while the freezer seems cold, fan noise from ice contact
Includes: 1 defrost heater assembly Install notes:
- Disconnect power before servicing; allow heavy ice buildup to thaw safely
- Access the heater behind the freezer's rear panel at the evaporator
- Transfer any clips/shields as needed; route wires exactly as the original and keep the element clear of plastic parts
- Handle the element carefully; avoid bending or stressing it, then reassemble and monitor temperatures over several hours
