It was fairly obvious that the washer drainer motor had failed, water was not draining, filter was clean (bottom lower left panel door, have a pail ready!) and drain line was not blocked. Well, I got online and found several YouTube videos on how to check what was happening. I have a multimeter and tools. I first replaced the external water filter just to make sure it wasn't that, and it needed it. That wasn't the problem. I then removed the water inlet valve which was really easy. I didn't disconnect the water lines but I did unplug the power plug. Using the ohms setting on the meter, I tested the coil of the valve solenoid. It wasn't open. I checked the voltage at the plug... With much trepidation, I Googled leaking washing machines and deduced that our problem was likely (but not certain) that we needed to replace the direct drive washer pump. I've opened sump housing to check for clogging but it was clean. When I removed check valve to inspect it I've found out that the round part of the valve was missing so I figured it might've blocked the water exit at drain hose or something like that. So I pulled the dishwasher out to get a full access to drain hose connector and the pump. The drain tube for for the defrost cycle seemed to be blocked, so I googled the repair & it sent me to AppliancePartsPros. Obviously, there's a design problem with this model since many other people have the same issue. This tube is an upgrade on the original for my KitchenAid model (design flaw). There was a loud noise from my washer during the drain cycle. (The washer seemed to drain just fine.) It was pretty easy to determine that the noise was coming from the drain pump. (Which for my washer is behind the front lower inspection panel on the right side front.) Remove upper and lower baskets for access. Remove 4 Torx screws holding drain/filter assembly, accessing last screw by rotating the water duct clockwise. Be sure to first un-clip the water duct at top and rear of dishwasher so that it can be moved. (Take the opportunity to remove accumulated deposits behind the water duct). I have a 12 year old Kenmore Elite washer. One day, suddenly, I heard a grinding noise and the washer abruptly stopped. I called a repair service and was told it could be the bearings in the drum of this front-load washer, or it could be the washer's drain pump, which automatically shuts down when the drain pump fails. Removed the old line and replaced with the new. This is the sixth time I've replaced the line. Yes you read that right, the sixth time. Lines fail about every 6-8 months so I can change one out now in about 10-15 minutes. Bought the refrigerator in Feb '09 and the line first failed in March 2012. The water just sat in bottom of the tub, but the dishes never got wet. The water would drain out at the end of the cycle. I took a chance that it was the circulation pump and not the control panel since everything else seemed to be working. I replaced the circulation pump &motor and the problem was solved. The hardest part was getting the DW out of the cabinet since it was a very tight fit due to the floor tile. The job of replacing the part only took about 15~20 minutes thanks to the repair... After inspecting screen and drain hose with no obvious cause, replaced drain pump. Removal of the pump was very straight forward. 3 screws, 2 electric connections, and 1 hose clamp was all that was needed. Read more

Replaced the pump motor. Works great again. I saw the picture of the part on the website so I knew I was getting the right part and watched the video to see if there were any shortcuts. Easy job. Read more

So, Saturday, the washer wouldn't drain, yes, I tried the Drain/Spin cycle. So I took the clothes out, rinsed them out twice in the laundry sink and dried them. After a quick Google search, I came to the conclusion that the pump was bad and ordered a pump, $125. Pulling the dishwasher, it was obvious we had a slow leak under it. We had a slow leak from the diverter motor area in the sump. Sure enough, it looked like the gasket around a shaft had to be the culprit. The gasket was attached to the sump assembly, or the motor. Conducted research on web, and via direct contact with AppliancePros where a diagnosis of replacing the water inlet valve and cleaning the sensor tube would "most probably" (80%) handle the issue. The remaining uncertainty would reside in the electronic board circuitry. The price of replacing the water inlet valve was half of a local repair call just to diagnose the issue so I decided to have faith in the odds presented to me.
