The Oven Probe is an OEM replacement part for Frigidaire electric ranges. As an essential safety device, it monitors internal temperatures accurately during baking and roasting cycles.  This probe measures approximately 8 inches.

Causes of a bad oven probe can include normal wear from continual high heat usage. Exposure to splatters or spills may damage fragile connection wires or compromise sensor accuracy over many years.

Symptoms of a bad oven probe are:

  • Inability to selectcooking modes like bake, roast or broil requiring temperature control
  • Faulty or inconsistent temperature readings during heating
  • Error messages regarding probe malfunctions
  • Premature heating element burnouts without regulating feedback

This part is also compatible with Electrolux and select Kenmore models.

Questions & Answers

For Frigidaire Oven Probe (Part Number: OEM11890971)

1 Answer

Jesse, Based on the information provided make sure to test the oven with a professional-style thermometer for an accurate reading (not the small ones that just sit or hang in the oven). Two probes are not likely to be bad in the same manner. The probes can be tested using a multimeter. if the probe is confirmed as good and the oven temperature is confirmed as out of range then the issue would be the board. (Also check to see that both elements are good as well).

Larry, It would be recommended to test the sensor for a resistance value of 1090 ohms at room temp and then check at 350 degrees for approximately 1654 ohms. If the resistance is good then this will most likely be the control board and if the resistance is off then this is the sensor that would need to be replaced.

Erin, the bake ignitor would need to be tested for 120VAC from wire to wire then from wire to ground during a bake cycle. If there is not voltage when measuring from wire to wire, but there is voltage when measuring from wire to ground, the failure would be in the safety valve 316404901. If there is not 120VAC at all, then the failure would most likely be in the main control 5304510580.

Pete, the oven sensor probe 316490000 should measure 1100 Ohms at room temperature. For it to read 85 Ohms, it has failed and would need to be replaced. With this reading as it is, it is very likely that it is causing both elements to not heat properly/at all due to it being weakened.

Hello John, You should be aware that the gas valve is opened by current flow. In light of this and the fact that you said the ignitor is glowing orange leads me to believe the ignitor is failing. You see, if the current flow is sufficient, 3.2 to 3.6 amps, the ignitor will actually glow yellow to white-hot and the gas valve will open. If not, the ignitor 316489403 will need to be replaced.

Gerald for Model Number Frigidaire electric range LGEF 3043KFB

Burned up a tray of cookies, got F10 error code. Replaced the temp probe with new one. Tried again, this time oven again got very hot and noticed the broiler element was red and on. I did not let it oven stay on to get an error code as it was very hot!! Do not think it should be on when baking. Not sure if it was on the first time temp went high (did not think to look) when cookies burned .. I checked the original probe and new one and both were within a few ohms of each other. Think I need a control panel replacement or is their something else to consider?? Gerald

1 Answer

Gerald, You can test the resistance of the elements. You should read somewhere between 10 to 50 ohms. If they test well then you probably have a defective relay on the control board and it will need to be replaced. 5304510064 overlay for control 316419353. I always list the overlay because when you peel it off from the old control it will not stick to the new one.

Justin Kunak for Model Number LGEF3045KFK

I have a frigidaire range... model number LGEF3045KFK.The oven is not heating up properly.I preheat it to 350 degrees and the beeper went off but it was only registering 160 degrees in oven.Again i tried preheating oven to 400 degrees shortly after and again the beeper went off and again only registering about 170 degrees in oven.Would your be able to help me out with some possible problems on my range that would be keeping it from hitting the preheat range i try to set it at.Thanks for your time.

1 Answer

Justin, I would start with checking the bake element for continuity and physical damage. If bad replace it, the part number is 316505500. Also, test your temperature probe resistance. You will find a list of values to check for on your tech sheet located on the unit. If reading is bad, replace it with the part number 316490000. If the element and the sensor are both good the control may be bad. The control part number is 5304495520.
