For Samsung Evaporator Cover (Part Number: OEM15978345)

Gary for Model Number RF263AEBP/XAA

After waiting 24 hours for all the ice to melt behind the Evaporator Assembly Cover, I confirmed my fan was working. I ordered the Temperature Sensor (DA32-00006S), replaced the old one, and put everything back together. It has been running well for 1 week now with the fridge at the proper temperature setting of 36 degrees. However, I noticed ice once again beginning to form on the lower part of the assembly cover. I'm thinking there is another sensor or part that might be bad, like the defroster? Any advice?

Hello Gary, you may be having a freezing defrost drain tube problem, you can use this clip DA61-14306A for that, it attaches to the defrost heater and hangs down into the drain tube opening.

I'm having a problem with my Samsung French door refrigerator its only 9 years old. The freezer would not stay cold and the back of the refrigerator would get ice build up and water under the meat/deli tray. Now the refrigerator will not stay cold. I called Samsung and they told me it is not worth repairing. Is there something you can suggest I try to get it working. I was thinking of starting with the defrost sensor is there something else I should do instead?

Joan, the refrigerator defrost heater DA47-00244B can be tested for resistance and should measure 120O. The defrost thermostat DA47-00243K should measure as having continuity and the defrost sensor DA32-00006S would need to be tested for resistance and compared to its actual temperature. If these parts all test good, then it is likely that the main control (the REV number will be necessary if there is one on the model tag) has failed.

Gary, The only way to get this off would be to let it thaw out or you could try to use a blow dryer to get the ice melted.

Ice build up every 6-8 weeks in the summer (MN) where refrigerant line comes into the compartment. I know when to remove and defrost ice when the fan starts hitting the ice build up. Fan works fine. Been happening for several years and is worse in the summer months than Winter when it happens every several months. So with windows open and humidity in the house during summer would it be worth also replacing the door seals? I am thinking of just replacing the ASSY Cover (DA97-07190G) as my foam has taken a beating from removal 7-8x over the years. I hung a copper wire at bottom of defrost element years ago so I do not get ice build up on bottom anymore.

Donny, It is my experience that the drain part # {AP4442156} is allowing moist air into refrigerator section causing ice build up.I believe there are two drains on this model possibly three one for freezer section, one for refrigerator section and one for ice maker drain.you can pull back cover off to know for sure.

Had small amount of ice showing on back of refrigerator, put hair dryer up to hole in back panel to see if air would flow through duct work and accidentally turned on heat instead of cool now it looks like the foam behind the plastic panel melted. Is the foam duct work replaceable or do I have to replace the whole assembly fan foam and plastic cover? Also, the reason I was looking in the first place is that the refrigerator didn't seem as cold as it should and there is a black soot like substance through out the refrigerator section.

1 Answer

T. Smith, Yes this would likely be the case in which the fan is frozen in place and may have to let the unit thaw out to get the part loose. The only other option would be to yank it loose but take the risk of breaking the foam on the back side of the panel or damaging another part.

Tommy, In most cases when the unit is not dumping ice on its own but will on reset then it would be a icemaker issue.

Hello Jody. The fan will not run with the door open. Make sure the door is closed. If so, replace the main board on the unit.

Frank, The most likely cause for your unit having ice around the fan would be an air leak. If there is no air leak found then the other issue would be the fan coming on before the defrost cycle is completed and would be a control board issue.

Hello Vicki, You should look for an air leak around the door seals. This is a common problem and if you can locate the leak, it is normally resolved by heating the door seal with a hair dryer or by simply re-leveling the unit.
