For Samsung Washer Balance Ring Assembly (Part Number: OEM12981123)

Nick for Model Number Samsung washer WF337AAG/XAA

Samsung washer r WF337AAG/XAA I replaced spider gear, bearing and other components seemed good. It sounds like the balance ring has fluid. There is still a out of balance issue. Where as the spin starts to ramp up it goes out of balance and shuts down. This was empty, it seems a little better when on put wet towel in. BUT, when I remove the back cover and I hold the back of the tub up and toward me snugly I can get the out of balanced better and then once it gets to about 1/2 speed it smooths out, I can release it and it spin on high or very high with very little problem. Any idea what could cause the issue just on the ramp up 1/4 to 1/2 speed spin??? Thanks Nick

Nick, Since you can hear the fluid in the balance ring, and there doesn't appear to be any cracks or damage to it, it wouldn't be the problem. Check the bottom of the base for any scrapes, dents dings, etc. Check the shock absorber shafts for any debris, rough areas, excessive wear. check and make sure all the levelling feet are solidly on the floor, the washer is level and there's no weak spots or movement in the floor/flooring. Finally, carefully place your thumbs on the tub cover/ bellows, slide your fingers inside the inner drum/spin basket and push up on the inner basket(use both hands/fingers) if the tub can be raised more than 1/8 in. the tub bearings are worn and the outer tub assembly will need to be replaced.

So as expected the spider arm was broke, I replaced it with no issues. The bearings seemed fine but I did replace the seal. Everything else seemed tight and fine. I put the unit back together and still have a balance problem at the higher speed. The front of the tub seems to be spinning at slow speed in a good circle, the rear not as well. Also I hear a noise when I hand spin the drum, like something is loose and moving, seems like in the area of the front ring. The tub was all clean, can there be something in the balance rings that has come loose or somewhere else? I guess the question is how can you tell if the balance rings are bad or not? Take my loss and quit or keep throwing money in it?

1 Answer

Nick, There are bearings in the front balance ring and should be a solution in there as well. If there is a solution then this would not be the issue. It is possible that the rear bearings are loose causing the unbalance issue.

Lani, If the spider is full of slimy debris and is flaking off then this would cause the out of balance and would recommend to still replace it. The balance ring as long as it has solution in it then it should be fine.

Lj, If there are no codes that are showing in the diagnostic cycle then this would most likely be an issue with the main control board that is faulty.

Danielb for Model Number WF219ANW/XAA 01

My issue sounds much like many of those mentioned here, but with some similar issues from a few. We recently moved houses, and the washer sat unused in storage for ~10 months. I just hooked it up at the new place, and on the first wash cycle, without any clothes, I heard a crashing sound and immediately powered it down. As Suresh mentioned, there was a significant amount of sandy/grimy residue inside and a slight smoke/rubber smell (additional rinse/spin cycles have not gotten rid of the residue). I ran it on spin only to see if it persisted, and the basin rotates out of center from flush to 0.5” as Dominic said, which then causes the tub to shake out of balance and present the dc error code. Additionally, it sounds as if there is a squeak/rub that is present at a regular interval while spinning. I checked the shock absorbers and they seem fine, as do the springs, so I believe it is an internal balance issue as the root cause. Lastly, I’ve removed the stator motor, and it did not look as if there was any rust around the bearing or that the seal was broken. Does this sound like a broken Spider and Balancer Seal? Potentially other issues as well? Your videos and this community Q/A support have been invaluable. Thank you for all that you do.

1 Answer

Daniel, With this issue it does sound like the spider has broken and would need to be replaced.

Roberto, It would be recommended to pull the tub and check the flange assembly on the back of the drum as it sounds like this may have broken which would cause the off balance of the unit.

Hello Rosie. It sounds like the spider has failed on the unit. In this case, the outer tub and spider needs to be replaced. The one needed for your model DC97-12528A has been permanently discontinued by the manufacturer and we don't know of any source or replacement for the part.

Hello Stephen. You will need to check and see if the spider is bad or if the bearings are bad on the unit.

Paul for Model Number WF365BTBGWR/A2-0001

Hi there, I have a Samsung front load from approx 2012 that is perfectly level both directions yet it vibrates, squeeks and knocks badly on spin cycle. It is on the main level of house and shakes the glasses in cupboard /windows downstairs. I have taken machine apart similar to what your video shows but I have not yet removed the drum/tub assb. The shocks appear to be intact and if I press down on the drum assb the shocks seem to return normally to their position (although the rear ones show signs of small rubber nearby possibly from the bushings wearing). Can the steel drums get warped as it doesn't always seem to turn in a perfect circle? I popped an inspection camera in the back through a vent hole to inspect spider and it appears to be in one piece. Also when I spin drum by hand there is noises coming from possibly the anti vibration mechanism. Almost sound like ball bearings hitting on steel. Any more ideas on what I can try?

1 Answer

Paul, Yes it is possible for the unit to have the drum get out of round but it almost sounds as though the bearings on the unit could be going bad.

Samsung Blues for Model Number WF419AAW/XAA-0004 (equivalent Kenmore)

I am currently replacing the flange shaft (spider) in my washer and have a question about the balance ring. It appears to be fluid filled and also have something mechanical inside it. Is there a way to check this ring? my washer has VRT if that makes any difference. Also, all 4 suspension shocks appear to have about 3/4-1" of free play before they begin to dampen movement...but then they are quite stiff. Is this a normal characteristic? Thanks.

1 Answer

Samsung Blues, There should be a liquid inside the balance ring and if it is not there then the balance ring would need replaced. As for the dampers this would be normal for that type of play in them.
