Questions & Answers

For Whirlpool Surface Burner Head (Part Number: OEM12295533)

Michael, if the igniter is sparking and not lighting that particular burner, the igniter is ok, the burner head probably needs to be cleaned. Find the small weep hole that allows gas to get to the igniter and clean it out. You want gas to get to the igniter so it can light the burner properly. To answer your question, you would need to purchase the igniter separately.

Hello Mark, this model uses a reignition spark module, it is not detecting the burner flame and therefore keeps trying to light the burner, the metal to metal contact areas between the burner base to the cooktop chassis have to clean as there is an electrical loop formed from the spark ignitor thru the flame to the burner base to the chassis and back to the ground screw on the spark module, and yes the rusty screws can block the loop.

Jenga543 for Model Number JGS8860BDP

I have a JennAir gas range (Model # JGS8860BDP). I switched from propane to natural gas a few years ago. Since then, the right front burner does not always light immediately. Today I did a lot of cleaning. All 3 burners are fine, except the right front burner. It won't light, even though it has a spark. The 2 screws holding down the burner were rusted, but I was able to break them off to get to the igniter. I'm thinking I should order the xlarge assembly including the igniter, but is it easy to install or change the wires? Does it come with the screws? Also, do you sell stainless steel screws? Also, my oven door has a terrible squeaky noise on the left side when opening? How can I eliminate this? Thank you.

Jenga, The screws are sold separately from the xlarge assembly and would be part number W11772394. For the door squeaking noise, this would most likely be a faulty hinge which would need to be replaced.

Hello Steve, The only time the ignitor should be sparking is if one or more of the start switches are turned on or if the start switch harness is shorted. You should start by verifying no wires are pinched. You can usually test the start switch harness if it is removed from the spark module but we actually need the model number from the units' I.D. tag so we can pull the wiring diagram for specifics on the configuration/design so we can provide you with accurate diagnostic information. Thank you for your patience and understanding in this matter.

Ron, You would not be able to just lay the burner against the main top. This would leave a space in which gas could escape under the main top. You will either want to drill out the old screws or get a new burner assembly.

Bryan, Can't think of anything you may have missed. The gaskets WP74010652 WP74010776 were set on the orifice holders before you placed the glass cook top in place. Check the screws WP8273062 to make sure the threads weren't damaged or stripped. Check the orifice holders screw holes for damage. On occasion, you need to use a finger or small hooked tool, and pull up on the orifice holder very carefully to align the burner base and orifice holder to start the burner base hold down screws then carefully tighten all the screws, you don't want to shatter the glass.
