Ellen July 06, 2019 for Model Number 110. 21102011 My top loading washer makes a back and forth scraping sound when it agitates only. I know it is coming from when the pulley is moving. The belt seems to shift a little because we had to replace it because it got caught in the plastic cover and frayed. The bolt on the pulley is tight. What can be causing the noise?
1 Answer Ellen, I would recommend replacing the splutch cam kit, some of the gears may be worn or something may be broke. Make sure there is nothing under the agitator or basket that is making the noise you are hearing. The part number for the splutch kit is W10721967 Read More...
Tony July 01, 2019 Top load Kenmore washer, the belt has continually fallen off and if put back on it works temporarily. Changed the belt and the splutch kit and it worked fine for about 4 days or so and now the nut wont stay tight. Before changing the belt and splutch kit it wouldn't stay tight either then so I assumed the splutch kit was the problem. How tight does the nut need to be and is it more than that from the sounds of it?
1 Answer Tony, As long as the threads are not damaged you can use loctite to secure the nut. I would use the blue in case you need service in the future. Read More...
Kendahl June 24, 2019 for Model Number NTW4516FW My Amana washing machine stops on the spin cycle. If I turn it to another spin it will sometimes continue and spin out. It worked fine after balancing and leveling the washer for one time. When it does spin, it does not seem to shake too bad. Could the problem have anything to do with the splutch cam? Thanks.
1 Answer Kendahl, There is a service sheet inside the cabinet front left corner in a plastic bag. You will have to raise the entire top not just the lid to retrieve it but it will get you into the diagnostics mode where you can check for error codes as a starting point to diagnose the problem. Steve June 23, 2019 Hi, own a maytag centennial top load washer. It is making a wurring sound when it starts the spin cycle. It tries to pick up speed but the wurring sound continues and the spin cycle never completes. The tub drains but the clothes is dripping wet. The splutch does not seem worn, the teeth do not appear stripped. Is it a bearing issue?
1 Answer Steve, I don't have a model number but if the splutch looks in good shape then you might need a gear case and is the only way to replace the bearing since the gearcase has the bearing mounted on it. Read More...
Chris June 12, 2019 for Model Number ntw4516fw1 I am having an issue with the agitation in my Amana ntw4516fw1. I works but is very weak. There is also a clicking noise each time the agitator cycles. I replaced the agitator kit hoping to fix the issue but it made no change. Would a worn splutch cause this or is it a transmission issue? Thanks
1 Answer Chris, Yes a damaged or worn "splutch" assembly, could create the issue as you described it. But, it is usually accompanied by a consistent "ratchetting" noise. You're also going to want to check the drive belt and pulley, and the shift actuator and wiring to make sure the linkages are properly attached and aligned . Read More...
Jr June 06, 2019 I'm not sure, but doesn't the actuator also turn on the spin cycle? Because the spin cycle works fine. So if it turns on the spin cycle but it does not agitate, the problem would not be the actuator, or do I have the wrong concept? I think the actuator moves the arm the activates the clutch and then allows it to spin. The spin cycle is working fine. But it will not agitate in the wash cycle. Please correct my thinking.
1 Answer Hello JR, the control board has to run the actuator to the correct position first ,either spin or agitation, before it will send power to the motor. The tech sheet was included with your washer, you would want to run the test mode and check for any fault codes first. If you need further help please include the model number and repost your question. Jr June 06, 2019 model 8MWTW1715CW0 this unit has a splutch that seems to be in good condition goes through all the cycles with no problem, but will not agitate. Spin cycle also works fine. Is the circuit board not sending the signal to agitate? Or does it have a bad actuator? You can feel a slipping between the drum and the pulley, I assume the transmission takes care of that part. Also when I try and look up this model I cannot find it.
1 Answer JR, unfortunately the model number provided is not showing up in the manufacturers database. However, the shift actuator can be tested for resistance and the resistance value of the shifter should be between 2 to 3.5 kOhms. If it has the proper resistance, then you will want to test for voltage going to the shifter to ensure the correct voltage is going to the shifter assembly. Read More...
Natasha May 03, 2019 for Model Number MVWX700XW1 No error codes will not fill with water but will drain if manual filled spins but stops cause lid lock light blinks also while spinning it sound like the pump is till running as if it thinks there is water still inside
1 Answer Natasha, you may want to check the control to see if it is sending 120VAC to the water valve. You may also want to check to ensure that the pressure sensor hose on the control is not clogged up. From what it sounds like either the control is not operating properly, or the valve, pressure hose, and lid lock have an issue. You will definitely want to test the voltage going to the valve and ensure that the pressure hose is not clogged. In regards to the lock, you will want to test the connector found at connection J15 of the control. From pin 1 to pin 3 of the wire connection, it should read from 85 to 155 ohms of resistance. From pin 3 to pin 4, it should read 0 ohms when in the locked state and 0L when unlocked. Then from pin 3 to pin 2 it should read 0 ohms when the lid is closed and 0L when the lid is open. If everything checks good, or the control does not send the proper voltage to the valve, then the control is bad. Read More...
Ricky April 24, 2019 for Model Number WTW5500XW0 My washer is making a terrible noise when the agitator starts. It will not agitate under load. The belt pulley has a lot of play in it. The noise is a grinding loud noise. There was also a lot of oil and gunk on the belt and pulley. Any suggestions??
1 Answer Ricky, Based on this issue the most likely cause would be the splutch cam kit but would be recommended to put the unit into the diagnostics and see if there are any stored error codes. Read More...
Neo February 20, 2019 for Model Number WTW5600XW3 My Whirlpool washer leaks brown liquid which spit on inner side of washer; and makes noise for about 5 seconds at the beginning of spin circle. What should be replaced? Tub seal? splutch cam kit? gear box? Should I purchase a spanner wrench?
1 Answer Neo, With there being oil inside the washer then this would most likely be a issue with the gearcase of the unit. If you use liquid fabric softener then check to make sure that it is not old fabric softener by getting a little on fingers and rubbing it and smelling it. If it has the same scent as the fabric softener then that is what it is. Would need to make sure fabric softener is being diluted when using. Read More...
