Nora May 27, 2013 I just ordered a lid switch assemble AP3180933 for my whirlpool washer I realize there is no video for installing it. My question is do I have to remove the washer cabinet to install it since it is in the back left hand corner top of my machine and if there is anywhere I can find detailed instructions for installing it. Your help is much appreciated.
1 Answer Nora, You would need to remove the cabinet of the unit to install the lid switch on your unit. Here is a video that will help you to do this: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Ag1eT5PrMnE Read More...
Monique May 25, 2013 for Model Number RAS7133PQ0 Switch went out on my washer I would like to know where would the switch be located at?
1 Answer Monique, The lid switch is located under the main top of the unit. To replace the lid switch you will remove the 2 screws securing the control panel, which will be located on the back. Once removed roll the control panel from the bottom front up. There will be 2 clips that you will use a flat blade screw driver to pop out and pull the cabinet off the unit. This will allow access to the lid switch which is locate at the rear of the main top. Read More...

Warren April 25, 2013 for Model Number roper I dont have the unit model number, but I know the part I need is 8318084. But the connector that goes into the part 8318084 burnt, so is not reusable. Is there a replacement connector with pigtails for this assembly. I can wire it into the old wires!
1 Answer Warren, To replace the plug adapter to the lid switch you would need a wiring harness as the connector is not sold separately. Read More...
Anne April 07, 2013 for Model Number Roper washer Washer was filled and started its cycle. When my daughter went to double check if the water level was adequate and when she closed the lid the washing machine did not continue its cycle. I tried to add more water and that work but there was no agitation, and machine would not drain. It was as if motor died. Could it be lid switch nothing?
1 Answer Hwllo Anne. Sure, if the lid switch is bad, it will cause the issues you are having with the unit. You will need to check and test the lid switch. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Daphne March 28, 2013 for Model Number RTW4340SQ0 We viewed your video about the lid switch replacement but our machine is a different model so the lid switch in a different place. the video shows the lid switch being underneath top part of the washer but on our model the lid switch is on top but under the control panel. So our question is do we still need to take the machine and separate it from the back of the machine and turn it upside down? or can we fix it from the top? we would appreciate some guidance with how to replace this part. Thank you. Daphne
1 Answer Hello Daphne. No, if your lid switch is under the console, there is no need to remove the cabinet. You can replace it from the top of the unit. Read More...
Sue March 09, 2013 for Model Number KSB5WH4 This lid switch is located on top of the washer unit, under the control panel, not inside the cabinet, like most models. When I attempted to remove the old lid switch, the clip snapped and broke off. When I attempted to insert the new lid switch, that clip snapped and broke off, as well. I cannot find video-based instructions on how to do this more delicately! I have ordered another part, but really don't want to break this next one. Any help is appreciated.
1 Answer Hello Sue, There are no definitive directions for the replacement of the switch. Once you have figured out the parts' vulnerability, it becomes easier to be gentle with it during its' installation. The main thing to remember is to change the part out with the lid opened so the arm from the lid hinge isn't in the switch, causing it to bind during its' removal and re-installation. Read More...
Jessica Leiker March 09, 2013 I have already ordered part number 8318084 but the part that connects to it, I cannot locate. Can you please provide the part number for the male part that connects to part number 8318084? I have tried 3949238.
1 Answer Jessica, The WP8318084 lid switch assembly has no additional parts, it is located inside the control panel and is activated by the left side lid hinge underneath the washer top panel. The WP3949238 is located on the right side (usually) of the opening when the lid is raised and activated by a plunger 350733 attached to the lid. A model number of the washer would be a big help Read More...
Jesse March 01, 2013 for Model Number TAWX700PQ0 The unit filled then the lid swith got jammed up, the lid would not close only with the forse of gravity then it snapped and the lid slamed shut now the switch is broken and i can not get the unit to drain. I bought the Unit second hand and the top of the cabinet dose not have the usual hinge and cilps, it is screwed shut, so I dont know how to acess the switch to change it without draining the water???
1 Answer Jesse, the lid switch WP8318084 and wiring harness is located inside the control panel/console on the left side arae. You'll need to remove power to the washer, slide the washer out slightly so you can access the rear portion of the control console end caps and remove the phillips head screw (one screw per side). Slide the control panel assembly forward, slightly, this will release the mounting tabs, then flip the assembly up on its hinges. Read More...
Matt February 25, 2013 for Model Number whirlpool I have a whirlpool washer. For a while now it has gone through periods of working and not. When working it will operate normally. When its not it goes through the normal cycles and fills and drains. Problem is that it won't agitate or spin when it's not working. Should I be looking at the lid switch shorting out intermittently or should I be looking at something else?
1 Answer Hello Matt. You can start with the lid switch and then see if it is bad. If it looks broke, or test bad, replace the lid switch. If not, then you may have a bad drive block, transmission, or timer on the unit. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3.
