My dryer door would not stay shut because the door strike was stuck in the door catch. I was afraid that when I pulled the strike out, it would damage the catch, so I ordered the door strike and door catch. I got the damaged door strike out with needle nosed pliers in about 15 seconds. The door catch was in perfect condition so I didn't need to use the one I ordered. So then I proceeded to install the new door strike. Ordered a new clip and installed it. Easy to do. Unplugged the dryer. Removed the front. It is only held on by two screws. Removed wires to the door switch. removed the female end (it had the broken male piece in it. Inserted the new female part in the front, clipped in the male part into the door and reconnected the door switch wires, screwed the front back on. Job done. Total time was less than 10 minutes. Through 15 years of vibration, the Cycling Thermostat evidently had degraded to the point where one electrical connection or more came loose and caused a short. There is also a possibility that the Bakelite section of the Dryer Cycling Thermostat body separated from the metal base, simultaneously exposing all four connections to a short. I pulled the dryer away from the wall and unplugged it. Then I used a 5/16 nut driver and removed the 2 screws in the bottom front panel and pulled it off. Next I removed the 2 5/16 screws holding the front door panel and pulled it down far enough to disconnect the wires for the light and the wires on the door switch. Upon removal of the lower inspection panel on the front of the machine, my 20 year old son thought the motor was bad by the smell. But he did discover what turned out to be the belt tensioner pulley laying inside the machine. Replaced the tension pulley assembly, drum rollers, drum roller axles, belt, and drum glides while I had the dryer disassembled. It turned out that the cause of the squeak was the tension pulley assembly, however it was easy and economical enough to replace anything that could have been the cause of the squeaking while I had the dryer apart. I manually rotated the drum and could hear a noise in the lower right hand corner of the dryer. I turned off the breaker, removed the front covers to expose the blower fan. Blower fan was no longer attached to shaft and hitting the housing. Ordered a new blower assembly, rear bearing kit and lint filter on Friday at 09:00 AM and they arrived the next day at 13:00 (with standard shipping !!). 15 mins to troubleshoot. 30 minutes to replace parts and re-assemble. I replaced drum rollers, axle shafts and front bearing kit. Still had noise. Ordered Idler Arm, Belt Tension Pulley & Washers. I ordered parts at 3:30 pm on a Wednesday, received new parts at 11:30 am Thursday. The instructions & videos were very simple to follow and provided excellent tips.
