  • Manages the timing and sequence of operations based on selected settings
  • Interprets signals from the user interface and internal sensors
  • Directs power to components via onboard electronics
  • Monitors system status and may store/output diagnostic error codes
  • Common failure symptoms: won't start, unresponsive or blank display, stuck/erratic cycles, or recurring error codes after a power reset
What's included: 1 electronic control board Install notes:
  • Disconnect power to the appliance before servicing; verify no voltage is present
  • Use ESD protection and handle the PCB by edges only
  • Photograph/label connectors and move them one at a time to the new board to prevent miswiring
  • Inspect wiring, fuses, and related components for shorts or damage and correct any root cause before powering the new board; follow the unit's tech sheet for any required post-install setup

Russ for Model Number MD87749AWM1

Problem: All lights to right work for choosing cycle and options, only start cancel and delay hours would not light or start the dishwasher. Solution: After reading all the blogs for Control Panel I went to the Thermal Fuse blog because I thought this might be causing the problem. On the 2nd page of that Q/A blog I found that you can reset the control panel (all lights idle) by pressing heated dry then normal then heated dry and then normal. All lights lit up monentarly and then just start and cancel. I pressed start and the machine is running. Blog said to let it run the full cycle and this is not complete yet. Question?? Is this a temporary fix and will I need a new control panel or was this just a glitch in the software that needed to be reset? DW is only 14 months old.

Hello Russ. Based on the information you provided, it sounds like the control panel is the issue. You can try removing the ribbon cable from the control board and see if you can get it to seat better and that is is good and dry. If so, this may fix the issue.

Mary, You wouled want to start by checking voltage to the wash motor with a multimeter. You could have a bad motor winding or something stuck in the wash motor/pump impeller, that would cause the motor to hum and not run. Do you rember a broken article in the dishwasher, or something similar. The drain motor 9 to drain the machine) is a separate assembly, and we know that one works. Here's some meter usage information : [http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html] and your technical data sheet and diagram, are usually attached to the backside of the kickplate on the dishwasher. Thanks and Good Luck

Kevin for Model Number MDB6709AWS - SN FY4202240

Currently, my Auto Clean Plus, Heavy, Normal, Light buttons are selectable - but rinse-only is not. When I click any of the buttons that work, Tough Scrub Plus and Heated Dry light up - but I can't de-select them and I can't get hi-temp wash or sanitize or delay hours to light up. And of course I can't get start or cancel/drain to run/light. I did open up the door and tested for power at various points - including the switch all positive. When I first took things apart and held the door switches down manually - everything seemed to work - so then I put everything back together and it wasn't working. So I thought it was the door-switches - I dismanteled everything again but now even if I hold the door-switches manually it still is not working... why did it work the first time I did that. I also pulled the ribbon-cable from where it connects to the control board and re-attached it.... the cable doesn't looked kinked or damaged in any way. Everything points to the control board vs the keypad - but I've read others that replaced their control board only to still have it not working properly. If the control-board doesn't resolve the issue can I return it?

Hi Phil. I would use a volt/ohm meter part # MA-DM1 to assist. you in your diagnosis. Remove the inner door panel. Look at where the door latch connects to the keypad console assy. Are you getting the supplied house voltage at the black wire and the white wire coming up from the units junction box there on one side of the switch (Common switch terminal)? Ten with the switch closed you should get the same voltage out and then it will feed the round thermal fuse incoming on the board top. This is fuse part # W10258275. If you have an open fuse this is why. Use the supplied tech sheet in the lower kick plate. Thank You.

Scott M for Model Number MDBH989AWQ3

Maytag Dishwasher Model# MDBH989AWQ3 The dishwasher doesn't turn on "Sometimes" (serial# FY4601375 I know I have power to the unit because some of the lights will come on when I press them, The DRAIN button works as usual but when I press the NORMAL button, the light doesn't come on and nothing happens. When I press the LIGHT or HEAVY buttons, those lights come on as if I can select them but when I hit the START button, nothing happens. I assume the door switch is working because the DRAIN PUMP works. I was informed that be pressing these buttons in this sequence SANITIZE-HEATED DRY-SANITIZE-HEATED DRY that would reset the control board and after doing that, sometimes the NORMAL light will turn on but very lightly (hard to even see)but sometimes it still won't work. What part should I replace?

1 Answer

Scott, you most likely have a faulty control panel / key pad assembly W10811159 "PROBLEM: One or More Keys Won’t Respond - Open key or LED circuit(s) on the keypad, or open circuits on the control to the keys and LEDs.- OPERATION A rapidly blinking LED over one of the keys of the keypad (or sometimes a “dead” keypad/console) indicates one or more key switch lines are stuck or shorted on either the control or the keypad. To determine if the control or keypad is faulty, do the following test: 1. Unplug dishwasher or disconnect power. 2. Open the dishwasher door. 3. Open console and disconnect the keypad ribbon connection from the control (at P1). Make sure all other connections are made. 4. Put console back together. Do not close the dishwasher door. 5. Plug in dishwasher or reconnect power. 6. Wait 5 sec. 7. Close dishwasher door. 8. Monitor the control’s response: ?If the control is OK (no longer sees shorts with the keypad unplugged), it will respond by turning on the Drain Motor for 2 minutes. Check and/or replace the keypad if the control responds OK. ?If the control is not OK (still sees shorts with the keypad unplugged), then the drain motor will NOT if the drain motor does not start within 10 sec, repeat or verify that all the steps were followed, then replace the control." Thanks and Good Luck
