Des June 30, 2012 I have the element in the housing unit. There are two wires in the dryer and there are two wires on the unit. Do I connect the wiring from the unit to what looks like a plug or the wiring from the dryer? The black wire is connected at both ends the red wire is connected at one end to the housing unit. The wires in the dryer are both red but the ends are to small to fit the plug.
1 Answer Hello Des. There should be a red wire coming from the motor to the heater WP3387747 and the other red wire comes from the thermostat on the side of the heater housing to the heater. Read More...
Kathleen March 26, 2012 for Model Number 110.63012101 I changed my heating element and still no heat. What do I check now?
1 Answer Hello Kathleen. Check and make sure you have 240 volts coming to the dryer. Check and make sure the unit is not set to Air Fluff. Also check the thermostats 279769 and see if they are good. You can test these with a multi-meter MA-DM1. They should read closed for continuity. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. Hope this helps. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html Read More...

Kevin March 13, 2012 for Model Number 11082826102 Replacing failed dryer heating element for the second time within two years in my Kenmore Elite HE3. The element support plate was cracked and partially melted from excessive heat(?)and the element coil had breaks in it. I replaced thermal cut-off and high limit thermostat the last time. Continuity checks good for those, the thermal fuse, and the thermistor. Any idea what is causing the element to overheat and fail? Do I need to replace the machine control electronics? There was good continuity between red wires from machine control(?)and ground wires at heating element as well as thermal cut-off and high limit thermostat. I really hate to have to continue to replace the heating element ever year or so, not to mention the concern of a possible fire. Appreciate any help.
1 Answer Kevin, The first thing would be to check the exhaust vent size, length and condition. If you have access to a clamp on amp meter, you could check for a 22 to 24 amp draw when the element is on and heating. The amp draw will verify the wiring and element condition. You would also want to check the exhaust temperature, with the drum empty, and the exhaust vent connected to the dryer, the avrage exhaust temp. on regular/high heat should be 155 dgrs.F. If all's OK, we'd need to look at a possible usage issue . Thanks and Good Luck Read More...
Terri February 14, 2012 for Model Number 11082822102 My kenmore dryer will shut down and an error message E1 comes up, the clothes are drying if i keep turning it back on...sometimes it takes 2 or 3 times.
1 Answer Hello Terri. Make sure the vent is clear on the unit. If the vent is kinked or clogged, it will cause the unit to not heat properly. If the vent is good, you will need to replace the thermister WP8577274 in the unit. Hope this helps. Read More...
Jim January 22, 2012 for Model Number GEW9200LW1 My electric Duet dryer spins and blows air but there is no heat. I measure 120 V from the Red heater lead to ground but 0 V from Red/White lead to ground when disconnected from the heater element. I measure 120 V from Red to ground and 120 V Red/White to ground when leads are connected to the heater element. I measure 0.01 ohms across the heater element. What is faulty component(s)?
1 Answer Hi Jim. The element needs 240 vac. 120 vac from each side. Element part # WP3387747. There is a wiring diagram supplied with the tech sheet inside the cabinet. All thermal fuses need to be closed part # 279973. Thermal fuse part # WP3392519. Along with the motor 1m (red) wire output from the motor centrifugal sw. Motor part # 279787. Ruby January 11, 2012 for Model Number 110.85872400 I think I need a new heating element. My clothes do not dry and I have checked, cleaned, and disconnected the vent hose and still no heat. I have an ohm reader and would like to check it. How do I get to this part?
1 Answer Hi Ruby. You will need to remove the bottom toe panel with a flat blade, and you will see the element AP2947033 on the lower right hand side. Remove the wires and test it for continuity. It should read closed. If open, you will need to replace the element. You can test this with a multi-meter AP3873826. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter.
