Upon removal of the lower inspection panel on the front of the machine, my 20 year old son thought the motor was bad by the smell. But he did discover what turned out to be the belt tensioner pulley laying inside the machine. I decided to repair my Amana LWA50AW top loader washer because it has served us well, it is made by Speed Queen and an equal replacement is expensive. These are very dependable washers. Fix washer leaks caused by worn or split drain hoses. This hose channels water from pump to drain. Common repair, typically takes 45-60 minutes to replace.

First i had to remove the belt from the drum pulley. i had to actually remove the motor from the washing machine. carefully remove the two water hoses attached to the pump...have a towel ready...there will be a few cups of water left in the hoses. remove spring from tension pulley then remove the pump that was attached to the motor. you will need a set of hex keys to remove the pump. then you can remove the belt from the drive pulley. reinstalled new belt around drive pulley and reinstalled... Here's the story. All my appliances except the dryer broke. Yeah. talk about bad luck. First I tried to fix the refrigerator. Replaced both motherboard and inverter board. This was a very easy fix. Two screws to get the front off of the washer. Removed one side of the tensioner spring. Loosened two screws for the motor and two screws for the pump. I decided to replace the agitate belt even though it wasn't broken.. So, I removed that belt from the pulleys and the removed the broken belt. then just reversed the process to install the belts. it toke me less than 30 minutes and my washer was back in service.
