Gasket & Seal

The dishwasher is 4 years old, so I figured since it was leaking from the bottom, replacing the Tub Gasket PN: AP5690109, Splash Shield Kit PN: AP4338941 , and the bottom Door Seal/Gasket PN: AP5809675 was a good idea; the machine probably has around 1200 cycles in 4 years. There's no telling how much the door had opened and closed!? Luckily we planned ahead when building the laundry room, as we built a water catch basin and drain under the washer, but waking up to see 1-2 inches of water is never a good sign - even if it is contained. Repair went fairly smoothly by following the EXCELLENT how-to video provided. I had only a few issues and suggestions. 1. Because many of the screws and fasteners are of multiple sizes, I would recommend laying them out in a muffin tray or on a paper with labels for where they go back. 2. After removing the weights and prepping to remove the shock absorbers, after the front ones were removed, the tub tilted so far the rear shock absorber separated. The friction pads fell out. We replaced the black door seal gasket around the front of the dishwasher. The old black seal gasket had begun to deteriorate, every time it was touched black stuff would rub off onto hands and onto utensils in the upper basket. We wore some disposable gloves to remove the old seal to avoid getting the black stuff on our hands. Door gasket was easy to remove and reinstall. Original gasket was penetrated while cleaning food stuff from folds in the seal below the frig doors. (Gasket is very fragile so don't try to expand the folds while cleaning. I used my finger and a paper towel but in hindsight should have used a Q-Tip. Also, when installing the new gasket you have to be sure the seam folds over the edge of the door and doesn't get caught underneath. Read more

I called an appliance repair company. They use a flat rate billing system which I don't like. They told me it will cost around $250.00 to replace the gasket and I would have to move my machine out so he would have room to repair it. He said the part would be in in 5 days. I found you on line, ordered the part for around $69.00 and to my delight there was a video on how the repairs should be done. Not the first time my 10 year old dishwasher developed a leak. I have learned that the tub gasket gets dirty and the gasket spring gets weak. Cleaning and if needed replacing that solves the problem. In cleaning the tub gasket this time I notice the bottom door seal had separated from the door. It was originally riveted on. I have used this freezer for ~ 10 years with no problems. We have noticed that frost started forming inside the freezer, so after research, the first step was to replace the gasket around the door. I ordered the part and replaced it, which took about 45 minutes. To replace, I would recommend unscrewing the screws around the existing gasket BUT DO NOT REMOVE THE SCREWS as that will take extra work. Ordered the gasket first from Sears, but they sent me the wrong part, i.e. on the drawing on their web site the part was right (ADX73550621 - Refrigerator Door Gasket, Left), but when I received it - it was too small and didn't fit. Returned it to Sears and tried to find it somewhere else. Fortunately found the part on this site.
