The Thermal Fuse is an OEM part for Whirlpool dryers. It is a critical safety component designed to protect the dryer from overheating by blowing and cutting off power if the temperature exceeds safe limits. This disposable, one-time fuse is essential for preventing potential fire hazards and ensuring the appliance operates within safe temperatures.

Symptoms of a bad Thermal Fuse include:

  • The dryer not starting or suddenly stopping during a cycle
  • No heat being produced while the dryer is running
  • Unexplained cessation of all dryer functions

Causes of a bad thermal fuse can stem from restricted airflow due to lint buildup, a malfunctioning heating element that causes excessive temperatures, or other electrical issues within the dryer.

This OEM part is also compatible with Maytag, KitchenAid, Jenn-Air, Amana, Magic Chef, Admiral, Norge, Roper, and Kenmore models.

For Whirlpool Thermal Fuse (Disposable, One Time Fuse) (Part Number: OEM18024936)

Karen, The thermal fuse you listed, would turn power off to the motor and the dryer would not run. The model number you supplied, should be a Gas dryer. You'll need to remove the lower access panel and observe the ignition procedure. when you start the dryer on a heat cycle : the igniter should start to glow, in a few seconds the igniter should start to fade and the gas released and ignited. If the igniter does not glow, there could be a cracked/broken igniter, open radiant sensor, bad coils, if the igniter glows, fades and no ignition You most likely have a bad set of gas valve coils 279834 WP338906 279311. Thanks and Good Luck.

Hi Ryan. Your door switch didn't make a ''Click" sound when you shut the door? This part # is W10820036. If your vent system is clogged, then you might need to check the thermal fuse part # is WP3390719. Thank you.

Hello Terra. The thermal fuse WP3390719 should read closed for continuity. If it were bad, the dryer would not run. Check and make sure you have 240 volts coming to the dryer. Check and make sure the unit is not set to Air Fluff. You will need to test both wires going to the heater (isolated) and see where your loosing power at. You will trace the wire that is dead and see if it is the motor 279787 or the timer WP8299771. You can test these with a multi-meter MA-DM1. They should read closed for continuity. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. Hope this helps. http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html

Hello Pilot Jeff. Wet you finger and lay it across the bars. They should read closed for continuity. When you remove your finger, they should read open. If the bars are working correctly, you will need to check and make sure the wires are connected properly and the wires are not melted together and touching. If the wires are good, you will need to replace the control board WP8546219. You can test this with a multi-meter TJMA-DMT3. Here is a link on how to use a multi-meter. Hope this helps.http://forum.appliancepartspros.com/oven-repair-including-ranges-cooktops/4810-how-check-continuity-ohmmeter.html

Ugo for Model Number kenmore model 110.67432600 series 400

Dryer was tripping circuit breaker on,off,on,off, several times over. Re-set the circuit breaker one last time and the dryer no longer tripped the breaker but simply stopped working. The light inside the drum does not turn on. The drum does spin freely and is not jammed. Start button does not start the dryer regardless how you set the timer. Meter shows 240v power comming from the 3 prong wall outlet, through the dryer power cord, and back to the dryer terminal block, so I know that the machine is getting power. Does this dryer have a master fuse tied to the terminal block that when it blows will cut off power to the motor, heating elements, and drum light all at the same time? Thank you.

Hello Mike. If the motor stops when the start button is released, then it sounds like the switch inside the motor is bad, and the motor 279787 will need to be replaced. This will also prevent the dryer from heating. Hope this helps.

Hello Bill. Test and see if your getting power to the igniter 279311. Also test the thermal fuses W11050897 and flame sensor WP338906. They should read closed for continuity. Check the coils 279834 and see if they test good. You can test the coils using a multi-meter MA-DM1. The two prong coil will read 1,000-1,300 ohms, and the three prong coil will read 1,300-1,400 ohms across prongs 1&2, and 500-600 ohms across prongs 1&3. Hope this helps.
