Don October 01, 2012 for Model Number Whirlpool Ultimate Care 11 When the wash cycle is initiated there is a loud squeel from the machine until it moves into the next cycle. What may the problem be?
1 Answer Hi. If there are debris in the pump # [3363394] it will make this noise. Remove the pump hoses and see if there is anything in the impeller or in between the outer impeller and the housing itself. Then when the unit reverses into the spin mode, it turns the opposite direction and water is drained. If you see black rubber and plastic pieces under the center of the unit then you need to unclasp the motor coupler part # 285753A. Thank You. Read More...
Jay S September 01, 2012 for Model Number GSN2000HQ0 My Whirlpool top load washing machine goes thru the wash cycle ok but when the rinse cycle starts, the pump starts pumping the water out but the machine doesn't spin. If I push in the knob on the timer to turn off the machine and then pull the knob back out,the washer will spin normally. I have replaced the coupling and clutch and jumpered out the lid switch. Any ideas?
1 Answer Jay, The drive block would make a noise at the start or end of the spin cycle, were it the issue. With a new clutch and coupling properly installed, the next check would be at the brake shoe rollers, pads, and springs 285438 or possibly an issue in the neutral drain system 388253A in the gearcase. Rog47 August 21, 2012 for Model Number Kenmore 110.27812692 How do you know that the drive block is the only part that requires replacing? I see comment above about machine gun like noise. Ours started doing that occasionally during agitate cycle and the clothes would wrap around the agitator very tightly. The noise would often go away if the clothes were carefully unwrapped and the washer restarted. I attempted to remove the agitator using the instructions in Sears Do It Yourself Kenmore Automatic Washer (Direct Drive) repair manual but after removed the bolt, the agitator would not come out of the tub (and I was afraid to break something if I pulled too hard) so I put it back together. Yesterday, though, the noise migrated to being throughout the entire spin cycle and I told my wife we needed to shut it down. The video shows a special spanner wrench as being necessary to remove the drive block and I also wonder what other parts might be required and how I can tell if they are needed. I have a video I can send anyone who would like to see it - it shows the agitate cycle - I can take another with the spin cycle. Thanks.
1 Answer Hello Rog47. You will need to watch the video on the parts page to help you access and replace the drive bloack WP389140. Here is a link to help you replace the part. http://www.appliancepartspros.com/Appliance-Parts/whirlpool-washer-drive-block-item-number-ap2905773.aspx Read More...
Karen July 29, 2012 for Model Number 11022722101 Hi we have a Kenmore 70 Series washer that is not spinning. We already changed the lid switch and the clutch but still not spinning furthermore now smells like something is burning. We also noticed that it sounds like its spinning but it's not. Right Now the washer is taken apart and we tried to reset the break assembly but it doesn't turn. Please help.
1 Answer Hello Karen. Check and make sure the drive block WP389140 is not stripped out. If so, it will prevent the unit from spinning. Read More...
Glen July 19, 2012 for Model Number LSR8233JQ0 Whirlpool Hi, With our whirlpool, The factory applied no locktight to the motor mount bolts, so , when I flipped it over, one of the three motor mount bolts was laying on the floor, the other two were spun out a turn or two. That sucks. Thanks Whirlpool. Unit is clean, 7 years old. We just recieved drive block and prior installed new clutch and brake associated with clutch ordrer. As we have taken the unit apart and back together we see the same problem: When spin cycle is to be called for the tub can not spin up with water and clothes in it. When the tub is empty and the dogs are removed we see that the drive shaft wants to spin, but has no real energy to spin the tub; it just slips while the motor rotates. Water drains. Motor coupling has been checked. clutch replaced. Drive shaft rotates both directions when adjitation cycle is called for. It will break your arm in both directions. On spin, drive shaft does not rotate tub when there is a small, small amount of a resistance of clothing or even hand pressure on tub wall. Tub will not spin up with hand pressure applied very lightly. We just recieved drive block but don't see a reason to apply it if drive shaft is not spining. Is this a transmission or capacitance issue or other? Thank you, glen
1 Answer Hello Glen. If the shaft is not turning, you will need to order and replace the transmission in the unit. Read More...
Don July 09, 2012 for Model Number LA5558S Well, I got the tub off. I had to remove the motor and transmission and pushed with both feet to remove it, however my block is part of the tub, not as seen on your video. I also went to my local appliance parts store and he looked up my model and it shows the same thing as yours, but again, my block is at the top of the tube and your block bottom is way to big. Mine is the same size as the tub center tube, but I did get the tub off. Now I'm trying to find the correct parts. Some parts are the same as the ones listed, but for the tub parts, they are different. All of the information shown to me are the same as yours. Is mine an older model? Why is the model number correct from my new purchase invoice to the tag under the lid of the washer? I just dont know. Again, thanks for all your help! Maybe I'll send you a picture of this tub, if you can receive pictures. Don P.S. I think I need to purchase a new tub as it looks like it's all one piece with the block already attached. There is no way to remove it from my tub.
1 Answer Hello Don, This sounds like the spanner nut was loose long enough to malform the center tube of the inner tub. This will require the replacement of the inner tub W10389328 and the drive block WP389140. It may even necessitate the replacement of the basketdrive W10820043 if the two tabs are worn off or the edges are rounded off on the old one. Read More...
Don July 06, 2012 for Model Number LA5558S PROBLEM RECEIVED BLOCK#389140 NOW MINE IS ALMOST ON TOP VIDEO SHOW YOURS ALMOST AT BOTTOM OF UNIT I CANT GET TUB OFF HAD RUBBER GASKET BETWEEN BLOCK INSIDE SHAFT HAD RIB ON IT WILL NEED REPLACE SOON AS I GET THIS THING OFF DO I NEED PULLER ALSO LOOKS LIKE MY BLOCK IS SMALLER BUT NUT SCREWS ON SO THAT PART OF IT OK SO THIS MUST BE OLDER UNIT I HAVE ABOUT 6 OR 7 INCH TALL TUBE FROM CENTER OF UNIT YOURS SHOWS NONE LIKE YOU TAKE OFF SPANNER NUT AND TUB IS REMOVED MINE I CANT DO THAT SO WHAT NOW AND THANKS DON ps I DIDNT OPEN BLOCK AS YET SO IF I NEED SEND BACK FOR CORRECT ONE
1 Answer Don, once you've lifted the tub(spin basket) off the drive block, you can insert a large flat blade screwdriver into the slot and twist the screwdriver to loosen the fit on the spin tube and slide it off. If you're careful, you can tap it off with a hammer if need be. It sounds like you need the transmission shaft seal WP356427. You shouldn't need a gear puller to remove the drive block, in either case. The spin basket does have a tendency to "stick" to the drive block, and needs to be broken loose by apply weight or pressure to one side of the tub. As long as you have a spanner wrench TB123B you should be fine. Read More...
Jose A. May 07, 2012 for Model Number 11022292100 I got a Kenmore washer model# 11022292100 that is not draing the water out. Its got a new clutch, when I try to wash clothes it wont drain the water out, but when I fill it up with just water and put it on rinse to drain the water out the bucket spins to drain the water out but the agitator wont stop it continues to run back and forth, I try to turn the agitator with my hand but in wont turn. everything else works ok. should I replace the drive block??? please I need help!!!! Thanks
1 Answer Hello Jose. If the tub is agitating during the spin cycle, the timer WP3950231 is bad and will need to be replaced on the unit. Read More...
Michael B. April 02, 2012 for Model Number MTW5700TQ0 If the drive block and the tabs on the shaft are worn will the unit still work?
1 Answer Hello Michael, Unfortunately, the machine will not work properly as the tub can turn independently of the shaft that drives it. The unit will not agitate or spin properly. If the tabs are worn off of the basketdrive tube W10820043, it must be replaced and if the knotches are worn away in the drive block WP389140, it also must be replaced. I can send you a service manual if you have a valid e-mail address for me to send it to. The one listed was "permanently undeliverable". Thanks! Read More...
Duke March 11, 2012 for Model Number 110.23032100 Washer running in full load all of the sudden stop I can hear the motor sounds like grinding (not metal grinding). Move the wheel on spin all I hear is humming and grinding. Empty the load move the wheel to drain the water pump seems working able empty the water. Tip over the washer check the coupler it turn by hand I check the motor to be sure it is spinning.
1 Answer Hello Duke. Remove the motor from the gear box and make sure the brackets for the coupling are good and are not broken. If they are good, and the unit is making a noise and not spinning, you will need to check and see if the clutch WP8299642 is bad on the unit and will need to be replaced. If the clutch is good, and the coupling is good, then the gear box 3360629 is bad and will need to be replaced on the unit. Hope this helps. Read More...
