Oven Bake Element
Genuine Whirlpool part
By: Whirlpool
Part Number: WP7406P272-60

Oven not heating or element burned out? This lower bake element restores bottom heat for even baking. Easy 5-minute DIY repair with basic tools.

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Element burned out   James W. • Round Hill , VA • April 15, 2017

It only takes a screwdriver for this repair. Remove the two screws holding the old element, pull it out of the housing, making sure the wires attached to the element do not fall back into the housing when you unclip them. Once you reattach the wires, simply replace the two screws and the job is done. I could not reuse the old screws though since the old ones did not hold the tight (unit is 20 years old and they were simply stripped). I simply increased the thickness of the screws and the new... Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Bake unit cracked and started glowing and sparking like the sun both elements replaced   Steven S. • Somerset , KY • April 21, 2015

Easy fix. Both elements replaced while I was at it, so all new. Figured if one went the other was going to follow. CIRCUIT BREAKER OFF. Removed the back metal panel with my nut driver for the hex head screws. Note where the panel may slip under tabs for support. Remove slip on electrical connections on upper and lower elements. May need a pliers. (I did not want to just pull the element and the wires into the oven with the element and remove them there, like a technician would do. After 15... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Baking element not working   Paul C. • Wasilla , AK • February 16, 2017

Turns out these wall ovens have a pretty common problem, the baking element relay on the back of the control board solder joint fails. We have had this happen on several units recently as we manage several apt complexes. So it was not the baking element at all, just faulty solder joints or something makes the baking element relay lose its solder connection. Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Burned out broiler element   Robert H. • Downers Grove , IL • June 18, 2016

Would advise before doing this repair to watch the video for it. It is not a plug in connection anymore like older ovens. The key is to keep the connecting wires from the oven from falling or pulling into the inner wall of the oven. The wires may not come very far out away from the wall of the oven so make sure to secure them. The video shows a good way to do that. If you have an in wall oven this is very important because it would hard and time consuming to pull the oven out of the wall to... Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You The large surface element switch has bad and the connection wire was shorting out   Everette P. • Grand Prairie , TX • September 03, 2017

I replaced the large surface element first before examining the switch. In hindsight I probably only need to replace the large surface switch. Once I open the back of the control area of the stove the blacked switch and wire made in obvious that the trouble was in the connection and switch. Luckily, I had a new contact to rewire the wiring as the old was burnt badly. After cutting it out and connecting a new one and replacing the switch the problem was fixed. Read more

Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Dead 1970s GE stove heating elements   Kevin N. • Oakland , CA • August 09, 2019

Ordering the right part is the key. This is the element with 3 wire connectors NOT the usual kind with 2 prongs that slide in. Thank goodness this company carries these elements for old GE built-in stoves. I'm not super handy but replaced two in about 40 min. Make sure you save the old ceramic clamps. The three prongs of the element with connected wires need to fit completely in the ceramic grooves so the two sides can be clamped together. The new element comes with everything you need but... Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You The front burner supports were disengaged from the element this is what prompted to replace the burner   Thomas M. • Osterville , MA • July 14, 2015

Removed the defective burner labeled the leads as to their location and coil connections. Replaced the connections to the corresponding locations, 1 to 1, 2 to 2 and the bridged terminal as it was. I noticed that the coils in the replacement burner were not wound in the same direction as the original burner and made note of this. I did not think much of this at the time, but on turning the power back on and lighting up the burners I noticed up they were not lighting up the corresponding... Read more

Turned stove breaker off in the main breaker box and also unplugged the oven from the 220 outlet. pulled the baking racks out of the oven and proceeded to locate the 1/4 screws just above the bake element where it passes through the metal wall and removed them. pulled the element forward until the wires were exposed and unplugged them and then attached the new element to the wires and reinstalled in reverse order. Do-It-Yourself Stories from Customers like You Baking element broke broiler never worked since I moved in 13 years ago and the four burners on the stove top were slowly dying   Marybeth K. • Milltown , NJ • November 13, 2017

With the help of Wendee and Karen, we finally figured out my model numbers and which parts where correct. I ordered the parts and all arrived the next day except for the Broiler element which arrived in 2 days. I installed the new Baking Element myself. Took longer to figure out which curcuit braker to turn off. In about 30 minutes I had a brand new Baking Element in my oven working perfectly. On the following day, I installed the Broiler Element. That took a bit longer as it sits in a metal... Read more
